Dilly strikes out nine batters as Deer Creek edges Dent 12-2

The Deer Creek Shockers split a pair of games last weekend. On Friday night the Shockers traveled to Dent and came away with a 12-2 win, before falling to the Bluffton Braves by a score of 1-0 in a game that was ended in the bottom of the sixth inning due to inclement weather.
This week the Shockers will host Henning on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in their lone action of the week.

Friday
Lane Dilly struck out nine hitters in just five innings of action, while Chaz Eckhoff followed with three strikeouts in three innings as the Deer Creek Shockers secured a 12-2 win over Dent on Friday night.
Deer Creek got on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning when Nolan Coyle led off the inning with a single, before Dilly followed with a walk. Both runners would eventually come across the plate to make the game 2-0 in favor of Deer Creek.

The Shockers plated three more runs in the third inning when Colby Schertler led off the inning with a single, before Evan Lunde and Matt Steege followed with back-to-back walks, All three runners would score to make the score 5-0. The Shockers added one run in the fourth inning, three in the sixth and two more in the eighth inning to end the game by the 10-run rule by a score of 12-2.
Schertler and Lunde each reached base three times in the win with Dilly giving up no hits and just one walk over five innings of work to secure the win.
Saturday
Nolan Coyle gave up just three hits and one run, but it wasn’t enough as the Deer Creek Shockers fell to the Bluffton Braves in a rain-shortened game by a score of 1-0 in 5 1/2 innings on Saturday night.
The lone run for either team came in the top of the fourth inning when Isaac Hamann and Payton Rondestvedt led off the inning with back-to-back hits. Hamann scored what would be the lone run of the game for either team to give Bluffton a 1-0 win. Coyle faced the minimum number of batters possible through the first three innings as he struck out five hitters over six innings of action.
The lone hit for the Shockers was a single with two outs in the bottom of the third inning by Gannon George. The game was suspended and ultimately ended early due to inclement weather with the Shockers set to take the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning.
