West Central Initiative (WCI) is a community foundation and regional development organization serving west central Minnesota. Counties served include Otter Tail, Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Pope, Stevens, Traverse and Wilkin.

“Town to town, county to county, organization to organization, and certainly person to person, the fabric of our region depends on cooperation, appreciation, openness, and generosity,” says Anna Wasescha, WCI president.

Following are examples of assistance to Otter Tail County and other area counties from WCI, based in Fergus Falls.

• Start-ups and businesses looking to expand can tap into WCI’s loan program when they have difficulty accessing bank financing. WCI, as a gap lender, can supplement or complement conventional or bank financing to help the financing package succeed.

• Mayors in Otter Tail County and area counties are at the heart of local democracy. Through WCI’s Lead Local Mayors Network, WCI is building relationships among the 82 mayors in west central Minnesota. They share ideas and encourage their constituents to get involved in the public service.
