Fisher scores 1,000th career point

Becca Frederick scored 17 points in three games last week. Henning improved to 12-1 overall with three more wins.

The Henning girls basketball team had three games last week with two of them being conference games and the other one being a section game. As a result, all three games were very important for the Hornets.  

The girls did a great job and came away with three victories, improving their overall record to 12-1 and Park Region Conference Record to 6-0.

This week the Hornets have two more conference games as they host Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday night and then travel to Menahga on Friday night.  

Tuesday, Jan. 10 at Verndale 59-45 win

On Tuesday the Hornets traveled to Verndale to take in the Pirates. The Pirates came out and gave Henning a very good battle. The Hornets needed to dig deep to come away with the victory.  The first half ended with Henning ahead by a score of 35-24. The second half was back and forth, but the Hornets were able to come away with a 59-45 victory.  

Once again the Hornets were able to spread out the scoring as they had six different girls score with three of them scoring in double digits.  

Henning was led by Faith Fisher with 19 points, while Ally Hart 14 and Lyvia Misegades 12 joined her in double figures.  

Ava Eckhoff had a very solid offensive game finishing with 7 points while Lily Fraki 4 points and Becca Frederick 3 points rounded out the scoring.

Frederick and Hart led the team with 6 rebounds each while Fisher and Misegades both grabbed 5 rebounds. Fisher led the team with 2 assists and Misegades led the team with 5 steals.

Thursday, Jan. 12 vs. Ashby 75-19 win

On Thursday the Hornets hosted Ashby who is a Section 6A opponent. The Arrows have a young team and Henning was able to get out to a big start early in the game as the Hornets held a 47-12 halftime lead. Henning went on to win by the final score of 75-19. The Hornets had nine different girls score and 11 different girls play.  

Offensively the Hornets were led by Faith Fisher again who finished with 26 points, including her 1,000th career point early in the second half. 

Fisher joins her mom Shari (Bjorklund) Fisher and brothers Sam and Isaac in the Henning Basketball 1,000 point club.  

Joining Fisher in double figures was Lyvia Misegades who finished with 18 points.  

Ava Eckhoff had another solid offensive night finishing with 8 points, while both Becca Fredericka and Gretchen Eckhoff scored 6 points each. Ally Hart 5, Lily Fraki 3, Ella Missling 2 and Natalie Eckhoff 1 rounded out the scoring.  

Misegades led the team with 9 rebounds while Fraki grabbed 7. Fraki led the team with 4 assists and Natalie Eckhoff finished with 3 assists. Misegades once again led the team with 5 steals followed by Fisher with 3.

Friday, Jan. 13 vs. Sebeka 78-22 win

On Friday night the Hornets hosted Sebeka in a Park Region Conference game.  

The first couple of minutes were back and forth, but the Hornets took over and finished the first half with a 40-13 lead.  The second half Henning was able to continue to play solid defense and a bunch of different girls stepped into the offensive end. Henning eventually won by the final score of 78-22.  

Head coach Mike Hepola said it was a very good team win as the Hornets shared the ball well and did a great job on both ends of the court.  

Henning had nine different girls score with three of them finishing in double figures.  

Lyvia Misegades led the way with 17 points, while Faith Fisher and Ally Hart joined her in double figures with 15 and 11 points respectively.  

Becca Frederick and Lily Fraki both just missed double digits with 8 points apiece. Natalie Eckhoff 7 points, Ava Eckhoff 6 points, Gretchen Eckhoff 4 points and Lila Thorson 2 points (first varsity points) rounded out the scoring.  

Misegades finished with a double-double as she finished with a team high 11 rebounds, while Natalie Eckhoff grabbed 6.  Misegades and Hart  led the team with 6 assists, while both Frederick and Fraki finished with 5. Fisher had an incredible 9 steals to lead the team.
